BCM was created in 1995 under the leadership of Keith Hamilton and Mike Panozzo, owners of Luby Publishing, Inc. The company, which also publishes Bowlers Journal International and Billiards Digest, the two foremost bowling and billiards publications in the world, sought to provide bowling center proprietors with the industry’s only magazine devoted exclusively to bowling center operators. To this day, BCM still holds that distinction.
In 2005, BCM and its creators were honored with the BPAA Special Projects Award, recognizing the publication’s contributions to the industry. BCM has also collected dozens of awards in the annual American Bowling Congress/American Bowler Writing Competitions, receiving the most honors of any bowling business publication, including a record three awards in 2005.
Luby Publishing, Inc., owns other titles as well. Started in 1913, Luby Publishing, Inc., today publishes the following magazines, in addition to BCM:
- Bowlers Journal International – The premier international bowling magazine since 1913, making BJI America’s oldest monthly sports publication, published monthly.
- American Bowler/US Bowler – The official publication of the United States Bowling Congress, reaching over 3 million readers, published quarterly.
- Billiards Digest – The premier international billiards magazine since 1978, published monthly.
- Billiard Retailer – A business-to-business magazine aimed at retailers of billiard, spa and home-recreation products, published bimonthly.
- Luby Buyer’s Guide – A bowling and billiards industries directory of products and services, published annually.
